After coffee, Demet, Elisa, Alessandro, Frederico, and I got into our car, a Hyundai Santa Fe, and started out 280 km trip to Puerto Rio Tranquilo. First hour or so was on a paved road, but then the road turned into a dirt road. Our maximum speed was 50 km/h. We were all shaken very well :-). We stopped at every photo opportunity and enjoyed the ride. We drove through thick green forests, lakes (lago), and rivers (rio).
When we arrived to our hotel it was 8:30PM. We are staying and Hostel El Puesto, which is a three room bed and breakfast style hotel. It is all wood with a comfortable sitting and dining are in the first floor. The rooms are in the second floor. The hotel is surrounded by trees, bushes, and chickens.
The minute we stepped into the hotel, we saw a family siting in the living room. They are a Chilean family with grandparents, a daughter and son, and two grandchildren, Albert and Camile from the son. The son used to live in the USA, but they now live in Germany. The kids say they are from the US; what a surprise :). They were very nice and started talking to us right away, but we had to finish our check in and have dinner because they stop serving dinner at 9:00PM. We had a fantastic dinner.
After we arranged for the room and the glacier hiking for the next day (yes you read it right, we hiked on a glacier next day), we set for dinner. One of the owners, Tamara, is also an excellent cook. We had a lamb dis, which was wonderful (perfecto). The lamb was slow cooked, served in a clay dish. There was a layer of lamb, a layer of vegetables, and on the top a layer of mashed potatoes. It was followed by a desert made of lukomo, gelatin, and milk. It was great, I think Mariso should write a cook book.
Then we set at the living area having coffee, where Albert was lying down on the couch, because he had an upset stomach.He is a great kid and talked to him a lot. He was very curios and asked us a lot of question about how things work: how a cell phone works, the biggest number, etc. Then his sister Camile came and told him that there was desert. Of course he immediately forgot about his stomach and went inside to eat, but his father sent him back because he did not have his main dish. He came back and quietly laid down. I wish Deren is that easy…
Next we retreated to our room and had a good nights sleep in out comfortable and clean room.
